The screenplay is based on the book “Fürsorge” by Anke Stelling, which won the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2019.

About the movie

The films of director Isabelle Stever (DEUTSCHLAND 09, DAS WETTER IN GESCHLOS-SENEN RÄUMEN) are characterized by an unconventional narrative style, keenly observed interpersonal themes, and a sharp, critical perspective. GRAND JETÉ is a daring balancing act that sidesteps moral questions and confronts the viewer with a search for stability, identity, and a safe home. It touches upon these themes in a sensitive yet simultaneously radical manner.

The role of the protagonist, Nadja, is played by Sarah Grether, a former member of the internationally renowned Stuttgart Ballet, who received her dance training from John Neumeier, the Chief Choreographer at the Hamburg State Opera.

Newcomer Emil von Schönfels, who has previously collaborated with directors like Andreas Dresen and Tom Tykwer, portrays her son, Mario.
